Pistols were the domain of officers. Almost all were private purchases. As a result their was no real standarisation. Below are some samples of pistols that an officer could have possessed. Prior to the early 1870's percussion revolvers would have prevailed. With the perfection of the self contained cartridge, cartidge types and conversions from the earlier percussion era would become the norm. . |
