The Uniform of the Volunteer Artillery

The artillery members of the Regiment wear the post 1882 Field Artillery Uniform of pure wool dark blue jackets with contrasting scarlet collars and cuffs.  Trousers are dark blue with a one inch and a half red stripe. The waist, shoulder belts and pouches are of brown leather. The officers wear the full braided Horse Artillery Uniform in honour of the pre 1882 period. The  shoulder belts and sword harness are off white leather. Buttons for all uniforms are brass with an embossed artillery crest.  Head gear for all ranks is a Busby with a scarlet sock and white hackle. The artillery section of the Regiment is armed with a full size 1857 mountain gun. Other arms borne by the gunners are the  Pattern 1861 Enfield musketoons and 1856 Yataghan sword bayonets. Officers and senior NCO's are armed with Pattern 1822 light cavalry swords.

The Volunteer Artillery were uniformed as horse artillery prior to 1882 and would have looked similar to the image above. The picture is also nice as it depicts the 12pdr gun used by the WA Battery.
